I like the sentiment though I’m surprised this part of our western culture is so well known. It’s a damned embarrassment. It is these gun toting, beer swilling, yahhoos that drove me to archery hunting. Glad for it actually but I would have found my way there eventually. There isn’t really that many of them fortunately but one bad apple and… well, you know.
Now let me get out my rhyming stick and… LOL

I don't hunt, but I do love my guns, as well as my right to own them and eating fresh venison. I'll take a good cold beer, too, and some of those pearl-buttoned shirt, cowboy hat wearing guys are the best salt- of- the -earth, well-mannered, save your ass people you'll ever meet.
You could have tried a true western style of writing, aka cowboy poetry, but whatever. Nice to see stereo typing is alive and well.

Hi, lady! You are absolutely unpredictable! You in the same time write in some different styles! Cool! I really "gob smacked" during and after reading! Cool! And I like it! W.F.

this is about a piccy i saw years ago (i wos about 13 or 14) in the mag 'Guns 'n' Ammo' an even then it wos a old copy...i been searching the net to try an find it ..so far no luck...anyways for me that picccy an the feelings it gave me in the end got me to join the anti fox hunting lobby in the UK an Greenpeace (i'd also happily kill canadian seal clubbers with their own bloody bats) am no tree hugging hippy..but disappearing wildlife does upset me..this write descibes the piccy i saw..an i dont care what he wos wearing i'd hate the man just the same if he happened to ride a horse with a red jacket an 40 dogs so any complaints about stereo typing please send them to... Guns & Ammo P.O. Box 420235 Palm Coast, FL 32142-0235 if people wanna hunt an kill then raise the stakes an lets have a Hunger Games..might find they aint so brave when being shot back at

I hesitate to make this about politics and less about the poem but... I mentioned in my first post that I like the sentiment and I do. Clubbers of seals piss me off but there is more to this than is often clearly defined. It's so much easier to group them up and despise them all.
Does any other inanimate object invoke so much emotion as a gun? I can think of a few but not today. I'm a hunter but I would never hunt with dogs. I don't even like to use a rifle and I don't like to kill anything. Few admit to this but hunters often cry at the sight of their first kill. A hunter speaks often of a clean shot/kill; meaning the animal did not suffer long. Hunters are not heartless animal haters and fox hunting is not hunting. I could list the top 100 reasons why I hunt and the only one that might truly repulse you is; I do it for the experience, unless you're a vegan. For my human heritage if you like. Good meat for a great price and the bone, antlers, and hide are useful too. A good hide is priceless actually. Hunters don't club seals or massacre any animal. I don't own a Stetson but my hats do tend to have a western look to them. I posted a pic of the one I wear most often here somewhere. I can buy food in a grocery store and they sell meat. Lots of different kinds of meat. I don't see venison or pink meat wild trout though. I collect herbs and other wild grown flora too. Mostly it's good for tea, incense, spice, and even some mushrooms, fruits, and veggies can be found in some areas. There is a lot of edible stuff but most of it isn't worth the trouble unless you're hungry. Some people tell me I don't need to hunt or I should not, but I do. It's not the kill, though I think some people should know the experience so they know something of themselves, but knowing what I can and can't do. I can survive though I'll never enjoy killing. I have won shooting competitions in both rifle and archery. Hunger games - Love the story and the movie wasn't bad. I was disappointed that some of the scenes weren't more like in the book. I would have scored a 12 easy and probably won. It would be a hell of a thing to live with though.
I think I know the pic but what was the pic actually stereotyping? He's probably smoking a sig and has a rifle strapped over his shoulder along with the Stetson hat and plaid shirt. Maybe a horse, a beer, and a campfire too. I doubt that any advertiser would create such a pic and want to be associated with seal clubbers so it is safe to assume there was not a pile of furs laying around in it. Personally, what offends me most about the pic is that the pretty boy posing as a rugged outdoorsman probably doesn’t like camping and has never killed his own dinner. So, I ask what is it about this picture that disturbs you so much?
I just went looking for a pic like the one you describe and I'm amazed. I can't find anything like it. Even under "Cowboy" it is hard to find a pic with a six shooter let alone a rifle. Sigh!
Stereotyping is dangerous. Now anyone with a gun automatically becomes a clubber of baby seals or at least a criminal except a cop (person of authority.) Don't be fooled Angel. Demonizing and propaganda are political tools.
