If there isn't a single original thought or unique idea left in the universe then why are you f*ckers writing?
^^^ Aish's words in a comment..BUT IMO an intresting point
for meself i think that there is no 'original' thoughts...somtimes we think we have them but only to find a million others have had the same idea or thought as well
we is all told we are all 'individuals' but how individual/unique do you really think you are ? surley if we are all sooo different then psychologists wouldn't be able to label/badge an box us into neat personality traits ?
in the context of writing we all want to avoid the cliché but with so so many amateur poets and sites like these..just how many new ways can you describe the same thoughts an feelings we all have ?
for me..the real important thing is not so much the overuse of words but the way you use them..the style you use should be your own..your voice..an it is thru that that i will get to know YOU

It isn’t that there are no original thoughts or ideas anymore but they are getting rare. That wouldn’t be a big problem but in this media driven world of ours we see it all in writing, even on our visuals, and everything is exploited in ways that were never before possible. We have thousands of years of writings in many languages to inspire, to pull from, and study. We can travel like never before and there are pictures/film of everything. In this society of ours we have time to think, ponder, and develop artistic talents. Talents that have no relation to survival. Many very talented writers have taken advantage of this. In fictional stories alone I feel fortunate to live today. I love to read. There is so much at our fingertips today that it does feel like it has all been done but what it really feels like is that it has all been done better than I can do it. LOL Do we have to be completely original? No. We do have to find our own unique flavor though. I have many original ideas and thoughts, things I find it hard to believe very many others have thought of, that are born from my own experiences and/or imagination. What I lack is the talent to express them in a relatable way. LOL “surley if we are all sooo different then psychologists wouldn't be able to label/badge an box us into neat personality traits ?” – Do you really think they have done a very good job of this? They haven’t. It’s just that science must label things and line them up with neatly explainable answers. That particular science is growing and changing constantly because it is too complex to know. It is like space exploration. There is way too much to ever completely understand but we can take small parts of it and pretend to be the superior masters of our environment that our egos demand we be. On the other hand, we have to start somewhere. LOL We share commonalities both physical and mental. These are easy to generalize and label but they aren’t to be applied individually. We are all different. We have different beliefs, experiences, and thought processes. Our individuality throws a complication wrench into the works of science. Ask six people to move from point A to point B on a city map. Maybe two will take the very same route and those two just like each other’s company. Why? Different thought processes. They all got to the same place but thought their way was a better way to get there for individual reasons. Writing is much the same way. Even if point B is cliché there is always a different way to say it. What I have trouble with most is that I often find someone has already found the best way. “for me..the real important thing is not so much the overuse of words but the way you use them..the style you use should be your own..your voice..an it is thru that that i will get to know YOU” – Bingo! Original thoughts – Imagine a universe where what we consider good and evil are reversed. Does that seem an original thought? It might. That’s not a real common one but I didn’t think of it first. How about without gravity or one where animals can talk? It has all been thought of because these are big concepts that span the world or universe. People think big because it is easy, no details to think through. Original thought comes in the details. This shows in inventions. Inventions are never original thoughts, it’s just that the thought was applied differently. Catching mice is not an original idea but building a better mouse trap is. It may be the best trap that will ever be built but it is a mouse trap, a cliché. I find it easy to forgive or ignore a cliché when it is disguised well, or better yet, said better than the well known wording of the accepted cliché. Inventive wording if you will.

Language is complex. Artists and poets and song writers use the parts of us that are the same. It's how we connect and start revolutions and movements and such. That doesn't mean we should all do it the same way.
I'm growing blue tomatoes. It's like every other tomato on earth because it's a tomato. It's different because Oregon State University bred it to be blue instead of red. And it's unique because I'm growing it in my own soil my own way and the pattern of the stems and leaves are all its own. Symbiotic.
Just because technology is the prevalent way we see " new", doesn't mean it's the only area we as humans can innovate.
