A bit of whimsey,, this one...
To search the world for a place to anchor, is something of a game of “Mindless over Mater”
A cabin in Alberta? Too cold in Winter A ranch in Phoenix? Too much of a sizzler.
French Lick, Indiana? Nice name, but “for the Byrds”. Someplace ending in “stan” Nah,,,bombs and rebel Kurds.
New York City, Traffic snarls and horn honks. I think Browning said it best "The Bronx? No thonx."
An oceanfront condo, Uhmm sharks and eels. Downtown L.A. To me “It gots no appeals”.
Washington DC, Too many shootouts, Politicians, lobbyists, And moral sellouts.
Is Midwest the best? Kinda dull I hear, Unless your thrilled, By bushwhacking deer.
Since ambushing Bambi, Isn’t my thing. Perhaps a sojourn, To Paris in Spring.
But the French don’t like, Us American folk. So mayhaps Merry Sherwood, And the Trysting Oak.
But that Brit food, yuk, Eggs with Mashed Peas? Gimme some bacon, Or a steak if you please.
So wander I might And wander I will, But for now home will be, Atop my own little hill.

Lol. Liked this a lot however, we're famed for chips (not crisps but fries) and MUSHY peas.
Liked the wandering element and everywhere being fine to visit...but not somewhere you'd like to life.

I have traveled both near and far from misty mountains to Oceans shore searching for that one place to call Home.
In each I've kept a part with me helps keep the peace inside of me by filling empty spaces in my soul.
Now I'm walking along by the Oceans side watching my eflection in the changing tide o so many times broken as the waves crash the shore.
Gypsie here.. I liked your poem. ;D

Certainly you Brits are famed for the chips, but "Bangers and Mash" is a menu item all over that dismal island,, as for the weather,, every time I've been in England the weather sucked,,, fog, rain,,, rainy fog, and a wet cold that chills one clear to the bone. But I've also had a lot of fun there as well.
