Hello it is I EvileAmerigo again and here to give you some more movie reccomendations... Chances are you haven't read my first thread since only 8 people read it and 6 or more of those people were me...
I know I originally promised to do it monthly but what the hey... I'll do it when I'll do it...
1. Scarface Anniversary Edition DVD set-- Okay it came out a month or so ago... So its technically fairly new... Well the movie Scarface is probably the best Pacino movie ever... Rivaling if not surpassing Pacino's role in The Godfather movies. This is indeed a gangster movie if you've never seen it... However it is so movingly gripping that it is the mobster movie. The story is of the rise and fall of a Cuban American mobster (Pacino) and how he created a short-lived cocaine empire.
2. Conspiracy Theory--I saw it on TV (TNT to be specific)... Great acting combined with a fairly interesting story makes this movie very worthwhile. A great thriller that follows the life of a seemingly insane conspiracy theorist.
3. Pirates of the Carribean--Sure Disney produced it... but this film is astonishingly refreshing. It is the Indiana Jones of the 21st century... Yeah you probably saw it... Most people did... But if you're one of the few who didn't this movie is pulled to great heights by the acting of Johnny Depp. Yes, Orlando Bloom maybe annoyingly goody-goody, but the film is still a blast to watch. Warning: You'll find little thought, complexity and originality in this movie, but then again its not a deeply moving drama. Still great movie.
Bonus Pick...
Since I originally promised only DVD movies there is one exception that is the Bonus Pick...
A startlingly great movie hailed by many of the toughest critics is probably out of theatres now: Bad Santa.
This movie has the complexity of real life in it and although it is dubbed a comedy some really undeniable elements of a drama are entwined in the charcter that Golden Globe nominated Billy Bob Thorton portrays. This a heart warming Christmas movie that actually utilizes a little thing called, real life. Unlike most Christmas family movies, there is a deeply noticeable presnse of the harsh truths of the world... There is sex, binge drinking, and suicide attempts instead of perfect family gatherings with a bit of slapstick comedy. Great movie... probably the best holiday movie.
