Just curious...does anyone know much about eating disorders...I'm kinda curious about like what happens if someone is bulemic or annorexic for too long...Why are they so horrible?

because you can die. even if you dont make it that far, you will become very unhealthy and often times its not something that you can fix. youre stuck with those problems for the rest of your life if you let these disorders control you for too long.
people with anorexia end up going without alot of the nutrients and other stuff that they need to run their bodies properly. eventually their bodies start to take away from their bones and other parts of the body because there is not enough food for it to feed off of. with bulimia the acidity of your vomit will cause the enamel on your teeth to wear away as well as give you ulcers and f*ck over your esophagas.
theres much, much more.. i just cant remember. you should probably do some research if youre curious or if you have a disorder. its very easy to find information on the net.

Yeha, I didn't know that...I have a friend who's bulemic and annorexic...I dunno, like she barely eats, but then when she does she'll throw it up....Shes been struggling with it for a while, like if she stops throwing up for a while, she'll start cutting really bad, and vice versa...She doesn't want to stop, but she knows she should....Is there any way I can help her...

hm.. im not too sure. just make sure to support her in a possitive way. if she knows that she shouldnt be doing that, its a good first step. you just need to make sure that you dont push her or harrass her about it.. otherwise youll just piss her off and she wont take you seriously.
i suggest you do some research and inform yourself on what exactly the disorders are, the side effects, and anything else you can find. the more you know, the better you can help her.

What I hate is how society portrays this image of what we should all look like to be pretty...and then when girls do what they think they need to do to get skinny or whatever they want....society makes them look crazy...
Sorry bout the rant...it's just hard when life seems to be going nowhere and you can't change anything...

i think its pretty funny how people think that they can come into the world and all of a sudden define every little thing about every person....from how to be cool to how to look "hot". they dont see what they are doing because they are blinded by money and greed. they dont care about people, if they did they would open their eyes. this is the kind of stuff that leads to problems like what your friend has...i really hope the best for her and everyone else... but it is a personal demon that must be helped through self-displince and encouragement from others....it is a long road...but in this world nothing comes easy.

hmm.. i dont think that society tries to make people with disorders look crazy, but it is definately frowned upon. its societies fault in the first place that people end up with the eathing disorders at all. im sure that some would happen, but the majority could be avoided if society wasnt so damn demanding. everyone sees the thin women on tv, magazines, etc. and they are all portrayed as beautiful(when in reality most of them have their own disorders and unhealthy lifestyles.) you grow up with these images of skinny and "perfect" women all your life and it eventually becomes ingrained.
.. im sort of babbling.. sorry. its hard to organize my thoughts right now.
the only thing we can do is fight against this sterotypical "perfect" image for women. we need to keep ourselves informed as much as possible of what exactly these disorders are and how to fight them. im sure that anyone who knows all the risks and long term side effects of eating disorders is less likely to get involved with one.
well.. thats my two cents.

The thign with my friend is she won't stop...She wants to be thin, heck I don't blame her....She just wants to love herself...She thinks that if she thinks she's pretty, that she will love herself...Her boyfriend is like the only other person who knows, and he threatened to tell her mom about it to get her to stop, and he threatened to break up with her...But she still can't stop...I mean, she knows that its not the right way to get skinny, but it's worked for her so far, so she doens't want to quit.

see thats the part that gets the majority of people. you see....its really a mindset, a thought placed in her head that to be a certain way, you need to do this and this....and when she sees that success comes from it...thats the point where its hard to ever turn back, i know im only saying what is most obvious....there is help though...there are 'professionals' who have studied this and know how to help....now theres no pill you can take...its like smoking...its a craving..if you dont do it for even a day..things just feel wrong....and thats the part i feel sympathy for...the fact that you just cant stop can lead to depression, self hatred, and even doing the bad things like cutting yourself and stuff....its really..well...sucks....

you are completely right, rod. she needs to have the motivation to stop for her ever to put an end to it.
eating right and exercise are the best ways to become a health weight. im just curious, is your friend overweight?

not neccissarily. its actually genetic. it can be passed down from your mother, aunt, grandmother.. whoever. also, if you have depression or any other disorder you are much more likely to get a eating dissorder. society definaly plays a big role, but sometimes its not the biggest.

oh...quite interesting....that actually wasnt on my mind at all when i was reading...i look back on my family and i dont see any symptoms...or anyone with eating disorder...so i guess i can consider myself "lucky"...but me, being the person i am....look to support those going through hard times...cause it could just as well be me or anyone else in that exact position...and would i not want the support myself??

........one thing is confusing me....... from what I understood, she felt that she had to either cut herself or have an eating disorder...... Why is she not cutting instead? Eating disorders are a lot more dangerous than cutting.....
........but m'eh. I know quite a bit about eating disorders, from both research and personal experience. (I still don't know how to stop them successfully, or even significantly reduce them (like I did with cutting) yet.... still working on it...)
