Alone I sit, a sterile corridor Staring, outside of lifes closed door Its party plays inside, echoes fill this hall But I'm comfortable, sat cross legged wearing nothing but 'Do Not Disturb' sign, against a wall
No pretence or charade peace in solitude In full view of false masquerade New guests go in, door opens, I peek Old guests check out, door closes, I peek An he is always there the man in the mask with crooked leer
Lecherous smile with eyes so cold Full of empty promises an fools gold He invites me in, points upstairs Lured, for the price of the Ferryman's fare
One day I may succumb but for now stay seated For I hate your music, an the way you dance An I know I'll end up upstairs Earning me exit, in coins of fools gold The man in the mask Who truly pays the Ferryman's fare ?

I dig this piece.Charon "the ferryman" has always been a favorite of mine in the greek god mythos. To voyage to the land of the dead one needs a guide and protector, hence the payment (coins on the eyes). That being said, the paranoid schizophrenic rendition above is interesting to say the least, why btw is his smile lecherous? Also "ferrymans fair" seems like overkill, perhaps "pays the ferryman" and cut it clean? -LMS

I think "fair" should be "fare" in the end line. Interesting piece Angel, enjoyed.

oops....fixed Mr V gotta say I wos suprised at the 'paranoid schizophrenia' you took from this...i been thinking how to explain this but kinda afraid if I do it would totally kill off the intrest you have lol is about the refusal of social compliance. ..the man in the mask is 'the system' the politicians the corporations all those telling us to buy shit we dont need with money we dont have to impress people we dont like slowly turning living breathing life into mundane pointless existence Rant over

"We don't need activists! We need terrorists! " We are our systems, we pay the bills & taxes! We need to assume the mantle of responsibility, I appreciate your hatred but what are you prepared to do about it? We can sit for hours poking holes and exploiting its weakest points but where is the action? Where are the solutions?

We are all part of the system we build but not everyone agrees with it. In the bigger scheme of things there is that human trait that history shoes us over and over, aristocrats are greedy lords and the rest of us don’t seem to have any problem with selling our children’s future for our own convenience. Activists get demonized (Sarah Palin) and terrorists demonize themselves (IRA). What works is when the masses get together and say ENOUGH! and start taking heads. Till then, resist. Resist the rat race, resist what you know is wrong. As for the ferryman, I think I’ll try swimming.
I like Veritas’s ending suggestion, it’s wonky as it is.
